Intermediate Oncoplastic Surgery Skills Course With Cadaver Lab
1:00 PM–5:00 PM
Course Description:
This course is designed for general/breast surgeons who have completed and mastered Level I oncoplastic surgery training and techniques and are prepared for more advanced oncoplastic surgical techniques. The pre-recorded lectures will provide information on Level II strategies and techniques for delivering oncoplastic breast care and managing complications.
Attendees will be required to have reviewed the pre-recorded course material prior to the course. The hands-on surgical cadaver skills lab will provide attendees with the opportunity for supervised practice of procedures taught in the pre-recorded lectures. Attendees will be assigned to stations to practice skin markings and Level II oncoplastic surgical techniques. At the lab, each attendee will be assigned to a station, led by a workshop faculty member, to perform the following procedures:
- Skin markings
- Quadrant by quadrant decision making for type of volume displacement
- De-epithelialization
- Inferior pedicle development
- Superior medial pedicle development
- Wise and Vertical mammoplasty skin pattern
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Comfortably apply common volume displacement and replacement oncoplastic techniques and strategies in their practice by ways of understanding when to perform Level II oncoplastic surgery or collaborate with a plastic surgeon when performing oncoplastic surgery
- Select the most appropriate oncoplastic procedures for individual patients
- Gain knowledge about avoidance, early recognition and repair of complications of oncoplastic surgical techniques
