Medicare Schedules Cut to 2023 Physician Payments
On July 7, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the calendar year (CY) 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule. If finalized without Congressional action, this rule would implement a 4.42% cut to the MPFS conversion factor for next year. On top of that, an additional 4.0 cut is looming due to a statutorily-required budgetary mechanism that would apply a sequester to Medicare payments. This could be implemented as early as this December.

Nathalie Johnson, MD, Installed as the Society’s 25th President
Nathalie Johnson, MD, of Oregon began her term as the Society’s 25th President on April 8, 2022.The official transition of leadership from Dr. Julie Margenthaler to Dr. Johnson took place at the Society’s business meeting held in conjunction with the Society’s 23rd Annual Meeting.
23rd Annual Meeting Update
When we began planning our annual meeting last summer, we were optimistic on where our country would be as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the recent surge in cases due to the Omicron variant, it is apparent that the pandemic will continue to impact how we convene as a Society. We are writing to share some of our leadership’s plans for the Society’s upcoming annual meeting, which is being held at Wynn Las Vegas, from April 6-10.
