Wednesday, April 30
1:00 PM–5:00 PM
Course Moderators: Cory A. Donovan, MD; Faina Nakhlis, MD, FACS

Course Description:

This course will review the resources and knowledge necessary to perform pre- and post- test counseling in a busy surgical clinic. Additionally, this course will provide practical management strategies for complex high-risk breast lesions. Participants will review current screening recommendations and breast cancer risk-reducing strategies for high-risk patients with and without germline genetic mutations.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize high-, moderate-, and low-penetrance germline mutations associated with an elevated lifetime breast cancer risk
  • Be familiar with breast cancer screening and risk-reduction strategies relevant to those with hereditary predisposition to breast cancer
  • Understand proliferative lesions associated with an elevated lifetime breast cancer risk
  • Know how to counsel patients with high-risk proliferative lesions with respect to their management on core biopsy and for future breast cancer screening and risk reduction
