Course Description:

This cadaver lab course is designed for breast surgeons and plastic surgeons who want to increase their understanding of the established and evolving therapeutic approaches to breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). The emphasis will be on surgical methods for lymphatic identification and preservation and lymphatic-venous anastomosis to aid in preventing and reducing BCRL. The importance of a multidisciplinary team approach for successful prevention and management of BCRL will be highlighted.

Prior to the course, each attendee will receive access to the pre-recorded lectures. On the day of the course, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with lab faculty.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and preserve lymphatic channels in the axilla
  • Understand key technical components of lymphatic-venous anastomosis
  • Develop strategies to reduce BCRL risk and optimize management of BCRL
  • Mastering Difficult and Targeted Axillary Dissections

Badge Pick-Up:

Badge pickup is located at the ASBrS Registration Desk, Hynes Convention Center, Level 2, Pre-function Hall C. Badge pickup will not be available at the off-site lab. You must have your badge to board the shuttle and enter the lab facility. Badge pick-up hours:

  • Tuesday, April 25, 5:30 PM–7:30 PM
  • Wednesday, April 26, 6:00 AM–5:00 PM

Transportation:

Attendees must meet at the ASBrS Registration Desk, Hynes Convention Center, Level 2, Pre-function Hall C, by 6:15 AM to be led to the shuttle pickup area. Attendees that arrive after the shuttles depart at 6:30 AM will be responsible for their own transportation to the course. Shuttles will transport attendees back to the Hynes Convention Center at the conclusion of the course at 11:00 AM.

Cadaver Lab Dress Code:

Boston BioSkills Lab will provide all PPE, including scrubs. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own loupes. A limited supply will be available for use at the course.

CME Information:

The American Society of Breast Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
