CMS Releases Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule, which confirms the nearly 4.5% cut to surgeons, harming patient access to needed surgical care.
Combined with a 4% Medicare cut stemming from the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act, surgical care will face a nearly 8.5% Medicare in the new year — and that is before accounting for significant medical inflation along with staffing and supply chain shortages that continue to harm surgical care teams across the country.
In response to these looming cuts, ASBRS and its coalition partners are calling on Congress to pass H.R. 8800, the Supporting Medicare Providers Act of 2022, which prevents CMS’s 4.5% cut.
